The Final Integrated Competence Assessment (FICA) is completed by all SJIB registered Apprentices and Adult Trainees who are approaching the end of their training for the Modern Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation.
The FICA is an integral part of the SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF Level 7 and may only be taken by Apprentices and Adult Trainees following the SJIB Training Scheme once they have completed the required competencies and site experience.
The FICA can only be taken at an Assessment Centre approved by the SJIB.
The FICA takes two days to complete. Sections A and B are completed on day one. The remaining sections are completed on the second day.
The FICA consists of the following sections:
- A – Assessment of Safe Working Practices
- B – Composite Installation
- C – Inspection & Testing
- D – Safe Isolation of Supplies
- E – Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
- F – Underpinning Knowledge Assessment.
Each section must be completed within specified target times.
The work must comply with the current requirements of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and health and safety legislation.
Candidates work in specially designed booths that contain drawings, block diagrams and written specifications which candidates should refer to throughout the Assessment.
Preparation is the key to a successful FICA result. Candidates who pass first time will have taken the time to prepare for each individual section of the FICA.
There is a self-assessment checklist that we would recommend you complete with your employer before you apply for your FICA – preparation is essential!
We would also advise you to take the time to attend the FICA Information Evening that is run by your SECTT Training Officer. This will be an invaluable source of information and guidance.
